- Wash with a Co-Wash shampoo—apply to damp hair, massage in, then rinse.
- Work the conditioner into your hair, let it sit for a few minutes (2–5 minutes), comb or brush through your curls to detangle them, then rinse. For very dry hair, the conditioner can also be used as a quick deep conditioning treatment.
- Apply the leave-in conditioning cream to towel-dried (not dripping wet) hair—from roots to ends.
- Style your hair with curling cream, gel, or mousse—work it through your hair and scrunch the curls into shape.
- Finish with styling gel for extra hold and definition (optional).
- Finish – Rub 2 drops of oil into your palms and scrunch your hair again for extra shine and protection. (You can also do this after your hair has dried to break up the frizz.)
- Dry using the diffuser or let it air dry.

7. Why isn't Cantu working for me?
Cantu is a great brand—but like any hair care product, it works differently on different hair types. Here are the most common issues and what causes them.
Too much product. Cantu is rich—start with a small amount and add more only if needed.
Product buildup caused by shea butter residue. Solution: Wash regularly with a deep-cleansing shampoo.
Incorrect product combination. A leave-in conditioner alone is often not enough—use a defining styling product as well.
Protein-moisture imbalance. Some Cantu products contain proteins—if you have a sensitivity to protein, switch to protein-free alternatives.
8. When you should avoid using Cantu
Cantu isn't the right choice for every hair type. If this sounds like you, you might want to consider a gentler alternative.
Rich formulas are too heavy for fine hair—the curls lose volume and go limp. Light, water-based products work better.
The hair cuticles are closed—rich butters don't absorb well and end up building up. The result: heavy, dull hair with product buildup.
The shea butter base can put additional strain on the scalp. Gel-based products are the better choice here.

11. Bottom line: Is Cantu worth it for your curls?
Cantu is one of the most reliable and affordable brands for curly hair. Its Leave-in Conditioning Cream and Coconut Curling Cream, in particular, are staples in many curly-hair routines—and for good reason.
If you have thick, dry, or high-porosity hair, you’ll most likely be happy with Cantu. If you have fine or low-porosity hair, you should use it sparingly or opt for lighter alternatives.
