Questions & answers about pre-poo & curl oils
A pre-poo is a treatment that is applied before cleansing to protect the curly mane from moisture loss. Dry or porous curls in particular benefit from this, as oils and treatments help to keep the curl structure supple and reduce frizz. This keeps the curls elastic, nourished and better defined after washing.
Massage the oil into your scalp or apply it to the lengths and dry ends of your curly mane. Leave the treatment on for at least 15-30 minutes or longer. Then wash your curls as usual with shampoo or co-wash. A pre-poo can help to nourish the scalp, reduce hair breakage and prevent split ends.
Once your curls are completely dry, you can apply 1-2 drops of oil to the palms of your hands and gently brush or lightly scrunch over the curls. This adds shine and protects your curly mane from drying out. Use very little oil so that the curls don't look greasy or lose definition.
Light oils such as jojoba oil, argan oil, almond oil, grapeseed oil or coconut oil provide intensive care for the curly mane without weighing it down. High-quality olive oil can also be used. The choice of oil depends on how rich your curl care should be and how much moisture your curls need.
Pre-poo treatments are suitable for wavy, curly and frizzy curls, especially if the curls are dry, prone to frizz or difficult to comb. A pre-poo can also help to protect the curl crown and improve the conditioning effect of subsequent products if the curls are highly porous or damaged.
Oil is also suitable as a gentle scalp scrub. Mix two tablespoons of oil with two tablespoons of sugar and gently massage the mixture into the scalp. This removes dead skin cells and cleanses the scalp thoroughly. After leaving on for around five minutes, rinse the scrub out with shampoo.
