Questions & Answers About Pre-Poo Curl Oils
A Pre-Poo a treatment applied before shampooing to protect your curls from moisture loss. Especially dry or porous curls benefit from this, as oils and treatments help keep the curl structure supple and reduce frizz. This keeps your curls bouncy, nourished, and more defined after washing.
Massage the oil into your scalp or work it through the lengths and dry ends of your curly hair. Let the treatment sit for at least 15–30 minutes, or longer. Then wash your curls as usual with shampoo or Co-Wash. A Pre-Poo help nourish your scalp, reduce hair breakage, and prevent split ends.
Once your curls are completely dry, rub 1–2 drops of oil between your palms and gently smooth it over the crown of your head or lightly scrunch your hair. This adds shine and protects your curls from drying out. Use only a very small amount of oil so your curls don’t look greasy or lose their definition.
Light oils such as jojoba oil, argan oil, almond oil, grapeseed oil, or coconut oil provide intensive care for your curly hair without weighing it down. High-quality olive oil can also be used. The choice of oil depends on how nourishing you want your curl care to be and how much moisture your curls need.
Pre-Poo are ideal for wavy, curly, and kinky hair, especially if the curls are dry, prone to frizz, or difficult to comb. Even for hair with high porosity or a damaged curl structure, a Pre-Poo can Pre-Poo protect the crown of the curls and enhance the conditioning effects of subsequent products.
Oil also works well as a gentle scalp exfoliant. Mix two tablespoons of oil with two tablespoons of sugar and gently massage the mixture into your scalp. This removes dead skin cells and thoroughly cleanses the scalp. After letting it sit for about five minutes, rinse the exfoliant out with shampoo.
