Hello dear curly heads

lockenkopf-blog-diy-curl-care.jpgDo you know those special recipes that are passed down from mother to daughter within a family? Usually, especially in Europe, it's about the "secret ingredient" in a dish. Of course, there are also traditions like this in my home country, but these inherited secrets are not always kitchen-related here. :) No, you probably already guessed it, there are also recipes and mixtures in hair care that are passed down from mother to daughter. As these recipes often have their origins long before the commercialization of hair care, the ingredients required are always purely natural. Similar to the old love potions and tinctures known to the people of Europe.

Today I would like to share a simple Curl recipe I learned from my mother. This mixture is said to boost hair growth. In other words: it supports faster growth of the natural curls for a magnificent Curly crown.

Well, between you and me, there is of course no proof other than faith :) But I like the feeling on the scalp and the silky softness that this recipe gives the curls :)

So for your curl treatment according to Dominican tradition you need:

Ingredients
1 aloe vera leaf* (or 2 tbsp aloe vera jelly from the health food store)

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tbsp coconut oil
2 tablespoons honey
1 rosemary leaves from a sprig
1 fine sheet or fine socks

*Aloe Vera - as this plant is a lucky charm in our country, it can be found in almost every house. If you don't have one yet, it is said to bring wealth into the house. Can't do any harm :))

So if you have Aloevera: cut off the oldest leaf and place it with the cut edge in a glass of water overnight. The next day, cut away the inside of the leaf and scrape the soft jelly out of the outer shell with a spoon.

Now mix all the ingredients well with a blender or hand blender. (At home we used a mortar for this.) Then pour the whole mixture into the cloth, I prefer stockings or a cut-off foot section from a pair of tights. Now press the mixture through the fabric into a small bowl to obtain a pure curl treatment without any residue.

Now to the application of the cure: As this cure is your Curls I start by massaging the mixture well into the scalp and only then into the curls. But now it depends on what type of curls** you are:

Curl type 2a to 3b: First wet the curly mane and then apply the hair treatment. Then cover the curls with a shower cap and leave on for about an hour. Then rinse with shampoo and care for your curls as usual.

Curl type 3c to 4c: I recommend that you apply the treatment after the shampoo. Curls Cover with a shower cap and leave on for about an hour. Afterwards, rinse the curl treatment well and continue with your favorite conditioner as usual.

**The difference in application is due to the fact that different types of curls require different amounts of grease.

So now you know one more secret from my homeland, :) see you soon.

Cordially
