The plopping method for curls

Plopping is a "trick" for curly heads that helps your curls not to lose their shape in the transition from wet to dry. You use this method after you have applied your styling products to wet hair and before it dries. With the Plopping your curls are pushed together like an accordion and this helps them to keep their shape even after they are dry.

Dear Curly Heads

It's been a while since I was able to devote myself to the blog. Please forgive my blog absence, there is always a lot to do and unfortunately the blog had to take a back seat. But now I'm back 🤗! Hello everyone! I would like to dedicate today's blog post to the topic of Plopping to dedicate.

Why actually plopping?

Plopping is a "trick" for curly heads that helps your curls not to lose their shape in the transition from wet to dry. You use this method after you have applied your styling products to wet hair and before it dries. With the Plopping your curls are pushed together like an accordion and this helps them to keep their shape even after they are dry.

Plopping for natural curls

If you are blessed with natural curls you probably know that when your curls are wet they are wonderfully curly, smooth and defined. But... once they're dry, it's a different story. The curls lose their definition and are more prone to frizz. How you treat your curls between the wet and dry state makes a small but subtle difference and that brings me to the plopping method, well almost ☺️

Plopping to strengthen curls

Another use for the plopping method is to strengthen "weaker" curls. With less curly hair, it is often the case that the hair pulls itself flat due to its own weight and the additional weighting care products, i.e. it loses its curl shape. This helps with such "slightly curly hair" Plopping the curls retain their shape. So now I really come to the actual method of plopping.

How the plopping method works

Step 1

After you get out of the shower, squeeze the water out of your curls by hand and apply your Leave-In Conditioner and the styling product (gel, lotion, foam, smoothie) The order is: leave-in, oil and then your styling product. This sequence is also known as the LOC method. (More about the LOC method you can find here) ...Now it's plopping time.

Step 2

Put on a T-shirt (or Microfiber cloth) in front of you, with the sleeves facing you.

Step 3

Bend forward so that your curls rest on the T-shirt and the curls are "on top" of your head like a palm tree hairstyle.

Step 4

lockenkopf-blog-plopping.jpgNow lift the hem of the T-shirt over your head towards your neck so that the head hole is on your forehead and tie the T-shirt with the sleeves behind your head. If you have a long-sleeved T-shirt, you can also tie the sleeves together on the forehead.

Step 5

lockenkopf-plopping-method.jpgLeave the T-shirt turban on your head for 10-20 minutes, then blow dry with a diffuser attachment or leave to air dry. If you wash your curly mane in the evening, you can also wear the turban until the next morning. Experiment over time and find out what works best for your crown of curls

Why the T-shirt and not a terry towel?

Conventional terry towels absorb too much moisture, which the curls don't like at all because they need the moisture so urgently, and the coarse fabric of a towel also causes frizz to form, which we also want to avoid. Curly Heads yes avoid. The T-shirt fabric only removes excess product residue and moisture from the curls without completely "robbing" the curls.

So my dear curly heads that's it from me again, I wish you all the best!

Sincerely
Your
